What You Will Do
Prepare and dispense medications as prescribed by physician according to established policies, procedures, and protocols and within specified time frame:
- Intake of written and electronic prescriptions.
- Carefully and accurately measure/count and dispense medications as prescribed.
- Fill medication in an appropriate container.
- Verify patient insurance; process claims accordingly.
- Prepare and verify patient prescription labels – patient’s name, prescribing physician’s name, name of the medication, and dosage instructions.
- Compound various topical creams/ointments, as well as oral liquids.
Maintains adequate stock of medications and supplies according to established policies, procedures,
and protocols and within specified time frame:
- Rotates stock to ensure use before expiration date.
- Identifies and replaces outdated and unusable drugs.
- Restocks medication dispensing areas.
- Prepackages medications in unit of use containers.
- Assists in ordering, receiving, unpacking, and storing pharmaceuticals and supplies in appropriate locations.
Participates in the quality improvement activities of the department:
- Completes all assigned medication storage area inspections in a timely manner.
- Conducts quality monitoring, collects data, and completes documentation, as assigned.
- Adheres to infection control protocols.
- Complies with all state and federal pharmacy regulations and requirements.
- Keeps pharmacy areas clean, neat, and well organized.
- Keeps pharmacy equipment clean.
Maintains competencies required for current position:
- Attends staff meetings.
- Participates in orientation, education, and training programs.
- Reviews literature and other materials as assigned.
- Completes all competency/skills assessment requirements annually or as directed.
- Maintains continuing education/professional growth and development.
Contributes to effective operation of the department:
- Assist patients/customers, answer questions.
- Enters charges and credits for patient medications accurately.
- Ring all sales in the cash register and collect payment from patient.
- Generates reports, pick lists and labels as required.
- Answers the telephone, identifying self and department. Directs calls to appropriate personnel.
- Answers requests at the window in a timely manner.
- Organizes and prioritizes work assignments.
- Maintains logs, records, and other required documentation accurately. Files in appropriate locations.
- Demonstrates good verbal and written communication including, but not limited to, patients, coworkers, and physicians.
What You Will Need
Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Possess current pharmacy technician registration in the State of New Mexico.
- Possess current National Pharmacy Technician Certification (CPhT).
- Six (6) months pharmacy technician experience preferred.
- Successful completion of a formal Pharmacy Technician training course preferred.
