Clinical Pharmacy Manager

CompleteRx has an opportunity for a Clinical Pharmacy Manager at our partner hospital, Hunt Regional Medical Center. Located in the town of Greenville, Texas; the full-service hospital is a 187-beds where patient care is priority.

The Clinical Pharmacy Manager is responsible for the provision of safe, effective, appropriate, and cost-efficient medication therapy to patients at the facility. The Clinical Pharmacy Manager ensures that pharmacists and pharmacy technicians receive ongoing training, competency assessment and performance improvement activities to improve delivery of pharmaceutical care to patients at the facility. You are the primary interface between the Department of Pharmacy and hospital committees (medical staff, nursing, etc.) coordinating medication use policies and procedures.

What You Will Do

Assures safe, appropriate, cost-effective medication therapies for patients according to established
policies, procedures, and protocols under the general direction of the Director of Pharmacy:

  • Develops, enforces, and maintains policies and procedures that promote and enhance patient outcomes through safe, effective, cost-efficient, and appropriate medication therapy use.
  • Assists in the development and maintenance of a formulary approved by the medical staff.
  • Coordinates programs designed to minimize medication errors, adverse drug reactions and medication misuse through improved reporting, analysis and follow-up through hospital committees and departments involved in the medication use process.
  • Coordinates, facilitates, and promotes education, training, competency assessment and performance improvement of pharmacists, technicians, and healthcare professionals in the medication use process.
  • Serves as principal advisor and/or member of hospital committees involved in medication use (Pharmacy and Therapeutics, Infection Control, Laboratory/Pathology, etc.).
  • Coordinates policies and procedures concerning pharmaceutical manufacturer representatives in hospital.

Contributes to the quality and effective operation of the department:

  • Supervises pharmacy personnel as assigned by the Director of Pharmacy.
  • Provides for the educational needs of the pharmacy staff.
  • Reviews monthly financial statistics and plans expenditures within budget guidelines.
  • Monitors and justifies all expenses exceeding budgeted targets.
  • Ensures compliance with hospital policies and procedures that apply to pharmacy services. Ensures compliance with all applicable Federal, State, and local laws, rules, and regulations.

Integrates the department into the organization’s primary functions:

  • Develop and implement a strategic plan for the pharmacy that supports the mission and goals of the organization.
  • Develops and implements pharmacy services in collaboration with associated department services.
  • Develops, implements, and maintains a program that improves the quality of pharmacy services and supports the quality improvement plan of the organization.
  • Participates in all committees/functions required by the organization including the Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee.

Maintains competency required for current job title/position:

  • Maintains professional knowledge and skills related to clinical pharmacy through participation in selected pharmacy organization(s).
  • Reviews and verifies medication orders, and regularly reviews patient medication regimens for potential improvements.
  • Responsible for the appropriateness of a medication order, including age-related factors.
  • Prepares and dispenses all medications using appropriate techniques according to accepted practice or established policies and procedures.
  • Exercise skills as a team member in the management of medical emergencies.
  • Ensure that policies and procedures related to medication management are followed.
  • Oversee pharmacy technicians assisting with medication distribution functions.
  • Document interventions, adverse drug reactions and medication errors according to established policy and procedures.
  • Together with the System Clinical Director, develops criteria for drug usage evaluations. Collects data and generates recommendations based on study results.
  • Able to use primary literature together with experience and judgment to assist other health care providers with medication-related issues.
  • Contributes to the quality and effective operation of the department.
  • Supervises and directs pharmacy support personnel. Verifies the daily activities of pharmacy technicians. Participates in the performance appraisal of pharmacy support personnel.
  • Fosters a team environment by providing orientation and training to new team members.
  • Coordinates and completes all assigned medication storage area inspections in a timely manner.
  • Identifies and replaces outdated and unusable drugs.
  • Adheres to infection control protocols.
  • Sign/Initial logs and maintain audit trails necessary to account for medications until they are administered to patients.
  • Develop pharmaceutical knowledge of hospital staff and students.

What You Will Need

  • Licensed to practice pharmacy, in good standing, in the State of Texas.
  • Three to five (3-5) years hospital clinical pharmacy preferred, not required.
  • One to two (1-2) years in a management position or overseeing, managing, and implementing workflows and processes is required.
  • Residency preferred.
  • Proficient in the Microsoft Office Suite of products, with advanced working knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
  • Ability to travel to attend conferences, team meetings, etc. Travel is up to 5%.
